The boy-racers have turned out to be chickens in the face of the law designed to crush their cars for repeat offenders. now the son of a mother who just yesterday became a victim of drunk driving says crush drunk drivers cars.
The oldest son of a mother-of-five killed by a woman fleeing a police check point says it’s time to crush drink-drivers’ cars.
Bradley Phillips said last night he was frustrated by the Government’s eagerness to crush boy racers’ vehicles, while letting drink-drivers keep theirs.
His mother, Penelope Rae Phillips, 52, died in Blenheim on Friday night after a 20-year-old woman smashed into her car.
The woman had been stopped at a police checkpoint 400m away. Police said she blew a positive result then sped away.
Officers scrambled to pursue, but the woman struck the white Nissan Penelope Phillips was driving. She died at the scene.
An innocent driver killed by a drunk skank and the skank survives. I feel for the son.
I read this story yesterday after I saw the headline on the Herald site that really rates as spam journalism. The headline read “Woman dies as driver flees police” giving the impression that the woman was involved in a police pursuit when nothing of the sort happened.
Just today we also hear that;
One of New Zealand’s worst repeat drink-drivers has been caught again, racking up his 40th driving conviction – 14 of them for drink-driving.
Richard Steven Rowe, 46, of the Bay of Plenty, is in custody awaiting sentencing in April for his latest drink-driving conviction. He faces up to two years’ jail and disqualification from driving for more than a year.
How many chances does one get? Looks like more than 14 or so. Crush their cars. This is the result of another vagary of our justice system, never being allowed to know what prior convictions a fool has already. Crush their cars.

I don‘t know about you Whale, but I am getting really slutted off with the media making the cops justify their actions everytime somecunt breaks the law and kills an innocent citizen or themselves.
And this Mum has a valid point ‚crush all cars of those convicted of DUI, trouble is most politicians would probably have to start catching the bus and we could‘nt possibly have that.

Well said Cam – it WASN’T a Police pursuit. It was a stupid decision made by a young woman with a skinful; and it has had tragic consequences for BOTH families. But the Police are an easy target for lazy journalists.
As for the recidivist drunk driver; a maximum term of imprisonment, a lifetime ban from driving, and as a condition of his parole, a residential treatment programme for his pretty obvious alcohol addiction. If the law won’t allow anything more drastic for offenders such as Rowe, then it needs to be changed.

I’m sure theres some country that drunk drivers get to blow the bag ‚if it’s positive then they get shot on the spot.
It’s only going to take one checkpoint televised live where every d.d. is shot to wreck to fry the situation.

The car will probably be crushed anyway as it was probably ‘totalled’ in the accident.
The young woman will be facing a dangerous driving causing death charge if not a manslaughter charge. The fate of her car would be the least of her worries. She faces some fairly serious jail time. Hopefully the docs at the hospital pulled some of her blood for analysis, but how much blood alcohol is only relevant for sentencing purposes in this case.
In cases such as this, if a jury is to return a ‘not guilty’ to manslaughter, it should consider a verdict to dangerous driving causing death, and if ‘not guilty’ to that, then careless driving causing death. At present the cops and Crown Law use a ‘points system’ to ecide whether to charge manslaughter or dangerous driving causing death, the concern being that juries tend to have some aversion to ‘guilty’ verdicts for manslaughter despite dangerous driving causing death being tantamount to manslaughter.

fair point. drink driving is far more dangerous than boy racing, plenty of multiple offenders too.
3rd offence… the crusher!
i wonder how many people would run, if they new the car would be crushed. too bad.

Its time NZ and NZers grew some balls and hammered the first time offenders seeing as the softly ‚softly approach hasn‘t worked.
And if you run, crush those cunts cars too.

*** FIRST OFFENSE – CRUSH THE BASTARDS CARS and disqualify them for two years. ***
How many PRICKS would drive drunk if they knew that a failed breath-test would see their car crushed? Stuff-all, I suggest.
*** COME ON, CRUSHER – SHOW SOME BALLS AND DO IT. ***

40 drink driving convictions is slightly excessive! This guy should be charged with 40 counts of attempted murder, and I think that if ever a case deserves preventative detention, this is it. Prevent our families from being killed, and this guy from ever driving again…better still, send him to Saudi Arabia they have the death penalty for this sort of arsehole
