I guess that was Game Over?

Is this a case of video games kill, guns kill or stupid parents kill?

Mistaking a loaded gun for a video game controller, a 3-year-old in Tennessee accidentally shot and killed herself, officials said.

Cheyenne Alexis McKeehan of Norene, Tenn., shot herself Sunday night after her stepfather left his loaded Smith & Wesson handgun out on a table, Wilson County Sheriff Terry Ashe said.

Cheyenne’s mother told police officers that the child was used to playing a shooting game with the Nintendo Wii video game console and likely confused the real gun with the realistic-looking black toy gun, the sheriff said.

The unfortunate thing is that this Nintendo game called Wii had what looks like a solid black, basically automatic-looking type mechanism that operates the game,” he said. “Unfortunately, the stepdad also had a .380 caliber black Smith & Wesson. The child was used to playing the video game.”

Clearly a case of stupid parents, removing a lovely but stupid child from the gene pool. Oh and don’t come at me with the “if there wasn’t a gun there she wouldn’t have died” crap. I’ve told you before Guns don’t kill People, Stupid People kill People. The step-father was the one who killed her not the gun, the gun is a piece of inert metal until a person picks it up and operates it. Gun Control as thought of here won’t stop criminals getting and using guns, but it will stop stupid people killing themselves or their loved ones.

The Four Rules
1. All firearms are always loaded
2. Never let the muzzle of a firearm point at anything you are not willing to destroy
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot
4. Be sure of your target and what is behind it

5. Always store guns securely, and ammunition in a separate secure place.

Stupid bloody parents. Although the Wii controller was the same colour as the real deal (sort of) I don’t think Nintendo deserves the blame for this. If the kid thought it was the controller, she probably would have shot the TV instead.

She was just playing around with something than any responsible human being would NEVER leave lying around, ESPECIALLY while loaded.

Never mind though, she’ll respawn any second now…

Everybody knows that you should baby/toddler proof your house by not leaving things in reach of a child that age which they could use to harm themselves. Children of that age don’t know any better and need to be supervised at all times.
Also when you own a gun you should be responsible. Never leave a loaded gun around, not just around toddlers but at all ever. The guy is clearly a moron, its a shame the toddler didn’t shoot him instead.

She was THREE WO THREE! That aint stupid that is a very young child. Call stupid where stupid belongs. The Step father. Pity the 3 year old didn’t accidentally shoot him, that would learn him!

jim, I would say that if I was keeping a gun for self defence/house defence I would keep it loaded and near to hand at all times.

I wouldn’t leave it within reach of a three year old though.

True, but the father was going outside to investigate a potential intruder, but he left the thunder stick on the table. Now that to me makes no sense. I don’t think it was for home/self defense, otherwise it would have stayed with him. I think he just wanted a gun to play with. It would be interesting for the judge in the inevitable legal proceedings to ask him what he knows about firearms safety. If he knew anything he would have at the very least switched the safety on.
