School says name him

by Whaleoil on January 31, 2010 · 34 comments

The School at the centre of the storm around all male teachers on the North Shore being branded vicariously through the action of a judge granting name suppression for a kiddy-fiddling teacher want the man named so that they can inform parents.

There is significant New Zealand and overseas research that says that by naming the offender it is likely to bring more victims forward enabling a slam dunk prosecution. For someone to reach the age this offender is he will have form at previous schools. Unfortunately the way the Teaching fraternity operates is that anytime some unsavoury details emerge they quietly resign and move with a glowing reference tucked in the pocket from a relieved principal who doesn’t have to deal with it.

Luckily the Principal of the school in this case is not prepared to stay quiet and neither is the BOT. Good on them. They should name him, they should post a letter to all student, not just for their peace of mind but for the 100′s of other parents who right now are contemplating whether to send their kids to school.

I have already fielded dozens of calls from worried parents. Name this man, he will have committed other offences, other victims may come forward. Give the parents of the North Shore peace of mind.

The Government must act. If they can change under urgency the defence of provocation because of one case and adopt a private members bill about animals (Well done Simon) then they sure as hell can move on this. The Public aren’t going to tolerate much more of this and I would bet I can find a suitable story every week from now till the election about inappropriate name suppression.

My suggestion to North Shore residents concerned about the safety of their child at school on Tuesday is call their local MP and lobby them to change the law so more victims aren’t created. If Simon “Just-in” Bridges, a newby backbencher, can get the ear of the PM about horrible treatment of animals to get an urgent law change then why can’t Simon “FIGJAM” Power do the same.

Right now it appears that the government cares more about animals and the rights of paedos than they do about potential victims of kiddy-fiddling teacher sickos.

I am curious to know the name of the chap, too.

One of the (very) few people I genuinely dislike is a ‘male North Shore schoolteacher’ and I want to know if it is him; I will be delighted if it is and he is heading to prison for quite a long time! hahahahaha!

If the Principal had any nuts he’d just name the guy now in public and bugger the consequences.
He is obliged to provide a safe environment for all his pupils, thats the priority.
They are not going to jail a school principal for this– even the lefty teachers unions would back him because he is gong up against the legal system NOTE: not the justice system, the legal system.

What ever the principals beliefs are on the matter, if she did publicly name the offender she would be in contempt of court, not everyone is willing to break the law for their beliefs.

Very dedicated these teachers, working on a Sunday and all to update the website. Hopefully they will leave an obvious big where a certain creep should be. That should get the message across to the parents without getting themselves in hot water for breaching any suppression order. The school must have a duty of care to the parents here that they are bound to filful

Whale, it took me 2 minutes to work out who this teacher was and what school they teach out given information available on the internet. Come Tuesday all parents of the school concerned will know who it is and will want to know if this teacher has been given the boot before sending their kids there.

As for all North Shore parents of primary school kids, they will want to know the following by Tuesday: Will the teacher concerned be working at the same school that they send their kids. Can they trust that all male teachers at their school are not kiddy fiddlers.

I see this case being similar to the HIV spreader case. His naming was important to alert possible victims to seek medical attention and councilling as well as making the public aware of the dangers of this individual. I see this case being very similar. For the sake of public safety and security, and also for many of the excellent males I know in the teaching profession, do the community a favour and just name this deviant.

Trouble is that the teacher needs to be suspended on full pay now and then the law take its course… publically.
Otherwise, any male will not (read will not continue) to consider teaching as a job, due to the risk of being tarred by the pedo brush because someone in the same region (N Shore has about the same population as Otago).

But the teacher also needs to be able to mount a defense — and child abuse is seen (as witchcraft was in puritan Boston) as a crime where one accuser’s voice was enough to damn you, and the accuser could not be cross examined. If the case cannot reach the standard of beyond reasonable doubt, the teachers council can still intervene for unprofessional behaviour. Or the teacher can just leave the profession.

Not at all!

Depends if they fiddle kids or not.

But the teacher also needs to be able to mount a defense

No! We need to mount a “defense”. These guys don’t need punishment. they need gunishment

heh. if they live that long!

Personally I think all sex offenders should have to be registered and report to a corrections officer or something similar once a month(or week), and keep on record where they live and where they work. The names on the data base should also be available to the public and the suburb of where the offender lives. We all know that will never happen here though because our system is too soft on criminals.

And if he is found to be innocent will you press for the names of his accusers to be revealed, or is it enough that a man’s career has been destroyed?

the majority of not guilty verdicts in sex cases are often due to technicalities and we often see sex offenders walk free because it must be proved beyond reasonable doubt.

yeah – that’s a GOOD point. Accusers named for innocent verdict!

Actually, naaa – not keen on that – “not guilty” is not the same as innocent and the accusers MAY have been sincere. But teaching is one field in which false, vexatious, accusations do occur and ruin the lives of the poor sods targeted.

Never ever (well … 0.1%) reason for name suppression POST guilty verdict. But pre-verdict, I’m a lot more comfortable, expecially in cases like this. Same with rape accusations. Punish them hard, but don’t let courts be used as a weapon by vexatious false complainants

100% agree with you.

BUT

In the event the alleged offender is considered to CONTINUE to be a threat… should we not err on the side of the potential victims?

Especially if such victims are the truly innocent young?

hey – something’s not right with that. If the school wants him named, why is he not suspended or removed from kid contact pending case.

get him away from kids until the case is over

So theresaj how do we know he is complying eith his court order to stay away from children under 16 if we can’t know who he is?

No one else gets Name Suppression until convicted as of right.
