I doubt that the police have heard of the “Streisand Effect“.
I also doubt our judiciary have heard of it either. We are dealing with the real world here and the real world wants to know stuff and they want to know it right now.
The real world has moved on from 1985. Bill Hodge was wrong the other night on TV saying the courts were catching up with technology. The reason is the “Streisand Effect”.
The Police, by charging me ensured that the secret they have alleged I breached became the secret that everyone wanted to know. I didn’t do that, they did, by charging a blogger who writes articles everyday and who conducts most of his life very publicly.
In case they don’t know how to click on links the “Streisand Effect“ is described on Wikipedia as;
The Streisand effect is an Internet phenomenon where an attempt to censor or remove a piece of information has the unintended consequence of causing the information to be publicized widely and to a greater extent than would have occurred if no censorship had been attempted. As early as 1993, “The Net treated censorship as damage and routed around it.” Examples of such attempts include censoring a photograph, a number, a file, or a website (for example via a cease-and-desist letter). Instead of being suppressed, the information receives extensive publicity, often being widely mirrored across the Internet, or distributed on file-sharing networks.
Mike Masnick originally coined the term Streisand effect in reference to a 2003 incident in which Barbra Streisand unsuccessfully sued photographer Kenneth Adelman and Pictopia.com for US$50 million in an attempt to have the aerial photograph of her mansion removed from the publicly available collection of 12,000 California coastline photographs, citing privacy concerns. Adelman stated that he was photographing beachfront property to document coastal erosion as part of the California Coastal Records Project. As a result of the case, public knowledge of the picture increased substantially and it became popular on the Internet, with more than 420,000 people visiting the site over the next month.

Good work Cameron with what your doing re the name suppression laws.
From your days at ABG you must remember that a graph should have both axis labelled why haven’t you labelled your X axis?
Also had you thought about asking for name suppression? If you had asked for suppression and been granted it, would you be in contempt if you had then named yourself or shown photos of yourself? That would have made a real mockery of the situation.
Good luck in the Kaimanawas.

“why haven’t you labelled your X axis?”
That would be the Y axis that has not been labelled.

Clearly you never attended AGS, else you would know that there is no such thing as ABG. There is a AGGS and an EGGS but no ABG.
It’s my graph and I will so whatever I want. And anyway if had had Weuston as a Maths teacher followed by \”Buster\” Keegan you wouldn’t be flash at math either.

If you tilt your head on one side and view the graph around the time you were served with a summons
you can also catch a glimpse of the ‘Streisand effect ’ a powerful singer also known for her sizeable

What is a pinko?

From wikipedia:
“Pinko is a derogatory term for a person regarded as sympathetic to communism, though not necessarily a Communist Party member. The term has its origins in the notion that pink is a lighter shade of red, the color associated with communism; thus pink could be thought of as a “lighter form of communism” promoted by supporters of socialism who weren’t, themselves, “card-carrying” communists.”

I heard a rumour about who this latest comedian is. So, I thought I’d google the name. The suggested search terms provided by Google confirmed I had the right name. So, are they going to charge GOOGLE???!!!!!

And I had only entered “First Surname” when it started suggesting “charged”, “kids”, “charges”, etc, after the name. True the intent is arguably not there, although there is intent to communicate the terms, but is still amusing.

Conversely, I searched for the “entertainers” name, (only the name, didn’t add terms), and saw absolutely nothing on the first five pages of Google results suggesting any crime or name supression.
Did you actually search just the name, or did you accept the suggested terms for your results.
Of course, with forums full of people guessing whom it might be, all sorts of people might be turning up those searches now. I just searched for a “comedian” whom I know is *not* the one in question, followed by “name suppression”, and while what I found wasn’t compelling, it’d be enough to get some of the more easily excited types going off half-cocked.

You are right that sometimes other comedian names may come up with similar suggestions. But, I still find it amusing that if you suspect First Surname is the person, and you go to google, and start typing in their name, Google preempts you and suggests terms ‘First Surname charges’, ‘First Surname suppression’ and so on. I did not even need to click Search before these were suggested.

Your problem Cammy boy is that while increased readership for most blogs is a boon, the “quality” of your offerings would make increased readership merely an increase in the number of people who realise what a prat you are.
BTW, I do hope you are reporting any extra advertising revenue to Work and Income, those guys tend to take benefit fraud rather seriously.

Not****** What is your issue with winz fraud. The majority of the people who vote the same as you support
it. I hate lefties that act all caring and inclusive then try to humiliate someone with depression.
Lefties try to reveal people with depression to shame them if they are right wing, yet come to there aid and support them unconditionally if they are lefties. Contridicts there values on depression. Help someone if there left and humiliate someone on the right. TRUELY SICKNING.

ahhh, serious question, am i breaking the law by linking people to this site? cos i dont want to break the law and stuff… are the media who report that whaleoil has broken the name suppression law themselves breaking the law by indirectly directing people to this site to read the content?
can we just direct people to information in a round-about way to escape the law?

What we need is a live webcam feed to your next court appearance. Twitter updates are great, but I’d take a day off work to see you dealing with the NZ legal system on a webcam. A Whale Oil court appearance live feed would have to rate better than than parliament TV.
All the best mate, I’m rooting for ya.

Im behind you 100% Whale. Keep up the good work. I notice a certain tv channel are still airing the “comedians” un-silly show…. will that change once his name suppression is lifted and he is invariably charged ? The blurred images of him walking into court seemed to indicated he’d had a haircut too.

can someone post a link to an image of this ‘famous’ entertainer in a comment, or is that breaking name suppression? can we post a link to an image posted on a forum, hosted in ghana, or is that still breaking name suppression? can someone mail a photo to me? or chinese whisper it to australia by any chance?
i still dont know who this guy is, but being from aus i probably wouldnt know this c-grade kiwi celeb anyway…

I fear alec has just let the cat out of the bag so I must reveal all. The master plan is complete, back in Sep/Oct the first stage was put into place. WhaleOil had a popularity shunt on a minor matter in anticipation that he would do exactly what he did – do something worse. You will see the carefully times spikes including the genius of the xmas period where more people meet and talk and read papers and surf the net etc. WhaleOil has indeed beef hooked all who have viewed his site since the announcement that he had banned material on his blog. All IP addresses since then have been logged under new laws passed by Labour back in 2004 when WhaleOil was just starting to be a pest.
All of you will be charged for knowingly seeking accesses to detailes of a person who had name supression – mawhahhahahaha

I see that one of today’s news headlines features a convicted rapist breaking parole and who is rated as having a high probability of reoffending. This speciman was on the run at the same time as Whaleoil was getting officer-of-the-law visits and love letters..
Good to see that the police bureaucracy has its priorities and resource allocations so absolutely right……again.

How about… during your court appearances… name the alleged offernder as many times as you can and wear a T Shirt with his name on it… thats should make it a tad tricky for court to be reported… and highlight the difficulty with the whole stupid thing.

Hmmm. Got a heap of bitter twisted nobodies coming out of the woodwork to attack you on this.
I just wondered if the fact that this has spiked interst in your blog and in the identity of the various proven or charged miscreants would now mean the piggies have to charge themselves, since their definition of “assisting in the identification of a person with name suppression” would definitely now apply to their deliberate decision to charge you and their omission of any attempt to suppress details of yourself or the case.
Keep up the good work and ignore the small minds of the insects who think this is about the rights of one or other of the deviants and murderers the Police have now drawn attention to.
To the complainers and those who personalise this with insult: grow up, grow a pair or go stick your head in a plastic bag for an hour or so. Or at least man up and stop hiding behind Christian names or acronyms.
Oh, and “Burt” – whatever your real name is – Christmas is a period when blog and web traffic drops off, it certainly doesn’t increase because we are all off getting pissed and forgetting to chase down violent rapists and the like. WTF!

And now we have a “national figure” molesting a 13yr old girl in Nelson and a former All Black assaulting a 15yr old girl in Fiji , so it seems to me, name suppression is actually encouraging people to commit offenses knowing full well that , even if they are a minor x list celeb, they can get away with it.
Just a shame these fuckwits can‘t handle their booze.
