How long will the Maori Party last?

by Whaleoil on November 23, 2009 · 18 comments

That is the first of a set random impertinent questions that the media should be pursuing tonight. Some others would be;

  • Why was Pita Sharples frantically trying to grab the first available seat out of Wellington to Auckland tonight?
  • Are their votes secure?
  • How much does Ngapuhi get again?
  • What about poor Maori iwi like Ngati Porou, Tuhoe and Muriwhenua and Ngati Pakeha

The word from the spies of The Whale is that the Maori party is in deep trouble tonight. Remember that the Maori Party opposed an ETS, now with a few blankets and beads they have been bought off in one of New Zealand’s most outrageously corrupt  manglings of our democracy. Thousands of forest owners have today had their wealth destroyed so that a few elite of the maoritocracy can brownmail the government.

I think the Maori Party is going to bust apart. It’s pretty much part of MMP isn’t it? The very same thing happened to the Alliance remember. Jim Anderton sold out the party and the ones with integrity left. Laila Harre, Matt McCarten walked rather than be bought off. The left splits faster than a banana when it comes to tough decisions.

This is a tough decision, one that if it goes through will see Hone Harawira and Rahui Katene essentially disenfranchise and impoverish their iwi forever. That is a decision too far I think for Hone Harawira. The question will be though is how many will split with Hone? The only two Maori party MPs that support the ETS now are Pita Sharples and Tariana Turia. Te Ururoa Flavell is said to be unconvinced.

Interesting times lie ahead, but I don’t think the Maori party can guarantee their 5 seats.

Funny how the Maori party has turned out to be just like the national party.
beholden to big corporate (iwi) interests
Would flip flop in a heartbeat – principles are for losers
Strongarm MPs to vote todays party line– or what the leaders dictate

And Yes Key has turned out to be the new Muldoon, in forcing sectional policies on to the country

@Spectator – Oh, so Maori aren’t allowed to be criticised now? And when they are, the criticism is “racist”? Bullshit.
You are the most racist of anyone here. If Maori play in the real world of business and politics, they can expect to be criticised. It’s that simple. To *exempt* Maori from criticism would be more racist than anything!

This is the fine art of corruption being played out before us. Nick Smith should go an be Philip Taito Fields cell mate / bunk “buddy” for this.

Not only has National (thanks to that prick Nick Smith) missed an massive opportunity to sell it to the people of New Zealand, they have essentially signed their death warrant at the next election. No amount of John Key smiling and kissing babies will cover this shambles. This is a disgrace and history will demonstrate the blame can be placed right at the feet of that mad prick Nick Smith. Makes the clown Andrew Williams look like Bill Clinton.

Dark clouds are gathering and the people are bloody unhappy – aside from a few “elite” Maori troughers.

I couldn’t care less about the Maori Party, but the saddest part of this debacle is to see the National Party surrendering to a bunch of racists.

Key has proven to be a weak leader, a person incapable of taking decisive action against the lunacy Nick Smith is peddling. He has failed leadership 101. He must go.

Now I know why there isn’t going to ever be a independant curruption commission. What National has done with the mowreez is truly BRIBARY AND CURRUPTION and they are too lazy to use their own bloody money. This is our children’s future they are giving away and all for a lie. Unbelievable. In Australia these clowns wouldn’t dare do this because if they did there would be a holiday at Her Majesties expense waiting for them. Just wait till all the costs start to hit everyone in the middle of next winter. What a pack of lying thieving idiots we have running this country. We need a NO CONFIDENCE box on the ballot paper next election.

I have to agree with mediatart.

how funny, Maori have learnt how to play the game of politics and suddenly that same wheeling and dealing that has left ALL Maori destitute and broke is ‘darkened’ and ‘corrupt’
You hypocrites – we see through your thinly veiled “big-brother-knows-best” racism

Of course we will disagree with each other, do not try to paint non-Maori as being the agreeable Osbourne family of politics. This site is built on disagreement.

Now guess who is back? Hone! He traded re-admission for support on voting for emissions.

some prick got through my so called Security System on Friday and fkd my new PC .. hopefully sorted today, Bstd.
Anyway, 1/ get rid of John Key and bring in? 2/ The Nats will be gone at the next election, Labour will get power back (with the Greens) and Mr Goof will be PM.
shit hot .. good call guys .. be careful what you wish for.

What the nats need to do is ditch Smith and the ETS, as a first step. The deal with the Maori Party is a lifeline to the opposition.

I’d hate to see Labour in power in 2011, but it’s areal possibility if the weak John Key continues to fumble the ball.

Oh how convenient that Hone is now allowed back inside the tent. What’s the bet that Sharples was trying to get on the big bird to Auckland in order to receive first hand the sizeable koha from his iwi backers. They must be laughing all the way to the bank, if they make it that far.

Where are the photos?

Now is the time for the Maori party to try to get a deal that works for all Maori. Which would be a carbon tax. Interestingly, that deal would work for all NZers too – and ACT and the Greens would both support it.

If we had ACT, the Greens, and the Maori Party all saying “we want a carbon tax”, which of Labour or National would give it to them? Or will National and Labour form the grand coalition to pass it?

Last one for you again thor, where in my blog did I ask for Maori not to be criticised? I don’t quite know what you are on about? I have an idea that you don’t either? School yourself racist.

Criticism is fine – it’s welcome in fact fool (thor42) but before you criticise, check yourself that you haven’t been doing exactly the same wheeling, dealing and theiving for years.
Be as honest as you want fool.

I don’t expect one rule for Maori, but when Maori start playing by ‘your’ rules, suddenly those rules become ‘darkened’ and ‘corrupt’ – so is that how the ‘real world of business and politics’ acts? Maori are not exempt from criticism, in fact your blogs and media ensure we are targeted daily.
So how do you respond to that thor42 – ignorant idiot!
