The US government has a new website, http://www.ready.gov. displaying
public service symbols for terrorism readiness, in the tradition of the old “duck and cover” campaigns after WWII.

The fun thing is that these pictures are so ambiguous they could mean anything! Here are a few guesses about what they mean:
If you have set your self on fire, do NOT run.

If you spot terrorism, blow your anti-terrorism whistle. If you are bald, yell really loud.

If you are sprayed with an unknown substance, stand and think about it instead of seeing a doctor.

If a door is closed, karate chop it open.
If your building collapses, cower under a desk and kiss your ass goodbye.
After exposure to radiation it is important to consider that you may have mutated to gigantic dimensions: watch your head.

If you’ve become a radiation mutant with a deformed hand, remember to close the window. No one wants to see that shit.

If you hear the Backstreet Boys, Michael Bolton or Yanni on the radio, it is a psychological terror attack. Cower in the corner or run like hell.
If you are trapped under falling debris, conserve oxygen by not farting.

If you lose a contact lens during a chemical attack, do not stop to look for it.

Swarm is a graphical map of hundreds of websites, all connecting to each other. It updates itself every second with where people are going and coming from. As sites become more popular, they move towards the center of the swarm and grow larger. Conversely, sites that lose traffic move away from the center and grow smaller.

Website traffic is symbolized with thin lines. Each time you see a line appear, it means someone has moved from one site to the other. You can gauge how many people are swarming around based on the number of lines.

This from the Herald this morning.

Clearly Manukau’s rating policy along with other councils are starting to impact on business.

Councils should really be encouraging businesses to establish not discourage them.

John Kerry is on attack over the election time accusations of the Swift Boat Veterans.

For the life of me I can’t see why Kerry would want to re-litigate this. He continues to get slayed every time he opens his mouth. Read the post it is hilarious if not sad that Kerry is desperately trying to spin this.

All Kerry has succeeded in doing is raising more emabarrasing questions over his service.

Just 19 days ago Harry Duynhoven was accusing Maurice Williamson of being “alarmist” over a report to the Transport select committee that was damning of CAA.

At the time Williamson described it as “shiver up your spine stuff”.

My, my haven’t times changed?

All of a sudden the Government, faced with yet another government department mismanagement debacle, has demanded “urgent” answers from the CAA.

What happened to the “alarmist” tag. Quietly dropped as they rush around and try to repair the damage.

And who can Labour blame for this sorry state of affairs. no one but themselves. There have been two previous reports in 1997 and in 2000 that slammed CAA, add that to the 2006 report and what has changed?

Nothing, the identified problems still occur, almost all under labours watch. Complete inaction despite two damning reports on their watch.

Jordan Carter is one of the most puerile and churlish Labour apologists out there. He often dribbles on with anti-American, anti-Brash rhetoric and resorts to Cullen-esque whiney, snippy statements of what is and isn’t.

Again despite plenty of other important news out there to comment on he takes a swipe at Don Brash.

Well Jordan, since you started it here goes.

A TVNZ Colmar-Brunton poll last night found 63 per cent of respondents did not believe Dr Cullen ‘s warnings about the fiscal consequences of tax cuts.

Effectively saying Yeah Right!!! to the History Teacher.

Of course both Cullen and Helen Clark say the poll is skewed to the right and flawed yet again shooting the messenger rather than listen to the message.

Labour has now effectively lost the tax debate.

The other debate that has Labour in a tizzy is the priorities of spending where clearly Labour has again mis-calculated. Their vaunted Working For Families has apparently fallen flat as has pre-funding super and roading spending. The top two priorities for Kiwis are Health and Tax Cuts.

This is clear victory to national for setting the agenda and makes it the second Cullen budget in a row to fall flat on its face.

Labour is now in the unenviable position of having to dance to Nationals tune or looking like the gooseberry at the dance.

By proposing a Private Members Bill to fix a mistake and wanting to pay back the error National has clearly wrong-footed Labour. Both senior labour decision makers have dithered when faced with questions. Michael Cullen scoffed at the issue and then denied he had seen the bill on Larry Williams NewsTalk show last night and Clark claimed to paul Holmes this morning that she hadn’t seen it either.

They are clearly stalling for time, trying desperately to see a way out of this.

To deny the bill will look petty and self serving, to allow it will put pressure on them to repay something they have claimed all along was legitimate and for which they clearly do not have the funds for.

National has clearly out foxed Labour on this issue.
